Concert Band & Wind Ensemble
The Concert Band & Wind Ensmeble play a variety of band literature, regularly review the fundamentals of music including chords and musical terms, and improve individual musicianship through ensemble playing and solo literature. Students also participate in non-playing classroom activities that enhance music learning. These ensembles perform at least 2 concerts per semester and participate in band festivals at the director’s discretion. These enembles have received Excellent and Superior Ratings as well as Ensemble of the Day Awards at King's Dominion Festival of Music, Carowinds Festival of Music, and North Carolina MPA Festival.
Students in Marching Band develop musicianship and contribute to the school and local community through participation in parades and school athletic events. The Marching Band will also have the opportunity to participate in band competitions and festivals in the Fall. Because marching band is a team activity where every single individual matters and has an equal contribution, all rehearsals and performances are mandatory. The Marching Band has received awards in Music, Percussion, Color Guard, and General Effect.
The Percussion Ensemble plays a variety of band literature that coincides with Concert band, plays chamber percussion literature, regularly reviews the fundamentals of music, and improves individual musicianship through ensemble and solo playing. Students also participate in non-playing classroom activities that enhance music learning.The Percussion Ensemble performs at least 2 concerts per semester with the Concert Band. This course is offered only in the Fall.
The Jazz Ensemble plays a variety of jazz styles. The Jazz Ensemble is co-curricular and meets after school for rehearsals in the Spring. This ensemble performs in concert with the Concert Band and Wind Ensmble. The Jazz Ensemble also hosts and performs in our "Afternoon of Dinner & Jazz" fundraiser.
